Daryl is Chief Executive of Magpas Air Ambulance and has held a number of charitable, NHS and local authority board level positions in Cambridgeshire. He was born in Cambridge and studied at Anglia Ruskin University where he was awarded a Degree and Masters. Daryl has stayed connected to his Alma Mater, where he was the founding member of the Anglia Ruskin University, Alumni Board, where he assisted the Vice Chancellor in judging awards for outstanding achievement of Alumni. Daryl previously served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the Town of Huntingdon where he lives and was also an Executive Councillor for Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) part of the Council’s Cabinet and served as alternate HDC member on the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
Daryl served for six years on the Governor Board of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including as Lead Governor. Daryl held Trusteeship and Directorships of Air Ambulances UK, the membership body and charity representing the United Kingdom’s Air Ambulance Charities. He also served as Director of the British Helicopter Association (BHA) and is Honorary Commander of the 423rd Force Support Squadron for the US Air Force at RAF Alconbury. Daryl was the first lay member of the Intercollegiate Board for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and served as voluntary Chairman of NHS Cambridgeshire LINK, representing views on healthcare in Cambridgeshire. He also served on the NHS East of England Major Trauma project board which established the first East of England trauma network. Daryl currently sits on the Cambridgeshire St John Ambulance county council and is a Director of the British Quality Foundation (BQF) which is a UK-based, non-profit membership organisation that helps businesses achieve sustainable excellence and improve performance through best practices, networking, and training.
Daryl was awarded an MBE in 2021 for services to Magpas and the Air Ambulance Sector and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire in 2021.
