Jaspal graduated from Manchester University in 1974 with a BSc (Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics, and has gone on to have a long professional career working in ophthalmics. Currently working part-time as a Consultant Ophthalmic Practitioner in Peterborough and Leicestershire, Jaspal has been providing eye care to patients for nearly 40 years.
He has been involved in community and voluntary work in the Peterborough area since the 1980’s, and was Chair of the Peterborough Punjabi Association from 1989-1994, and President of the Sikh Temple in Peterborough five times from 1994-2014. Jaspal has been Chair of the Peterborough Interfaith Council since 1999, and he is recognised as a key pillar in Peterborough’s social cohesion. He is also a member of the steering group committee for the proposed University of Peterborough.
Jaspal is married with six children and has 13 grandchildren. He is a keen cricketer and still plays, only standing down as Captain in 2018, and is also an ECB Level 2 coach.
Jaspal was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire in 2018.
